PEMEX confirmed the oil potential of the province of Catemaco Fold Belt after the Kunah-1, drilled by the semisubmersible rig "Centennial" in a water depth of two thousand 157 meters, was constituted as the well with higher productivity in waters deep.

This work allowed the identification of five sites wet gas drilled at different intervals.

The relevance of Kunah-1, located 125 kilometers northeast of Veracruz, is the establishment of reserves in a new stratigraphic level which is located at a position above the horizon and Piklis Lakach producers, which correspond to Miocene period.

Thus, it is estimated 3P reserves certified in a range between 1.5 and 2 billion cubic feet of gas and strengthens the portfolio of opportunities in the area, equivalent to 300-400 million barrels, of which approximately 10 per percent is crude.

This project is part of the exploratory work done Pemex Exploration and Production in the Gulf of Mexico Deepwater, on the northwestern edge of that province, to a total depth of four thousand 550 meters, with the aim of discovering new accumulations of hydrocarbons feasible they are marketed.

The five fields discovered have depths ranging from two thousand to four thousand 845 to 103 meters: one in the Late Miocene, another in the Middle and three more in the Early Miocene, and corroborate the petroleum potential to record pressures and temperatures above the forecast, which were identified by modern technology training dynamic testers.

During testing of production costs reached 34 million cubic feet of wet gas per day and 110 barrels of liquids.

Note that during evolution in drilling wells Lakach-1, and Kunah Piklis-1-1, which began in 2006, there has been an increase in the number of producing accumulations to the north, among which are these deposits.
