Gazprom Neft has started the second pilot project of drilling operations at the eastern part of the Orenburg oil-gas-condensate field developed by its subsidiary, CJSC Gazprom Neft Orenburg.

The second stage program has been prepared upon completion of the first pilot project run between December 2011 and May 2012. A total of 6 wells were drilled in the eastern part of the Orenburg field. The average flow rate they produced exceeded the company’s expectations.

Within the next 10 months another 22 horizontal wells will be drilled at the eastern part of the Orenburg oil-gas-condensate field, with the average depth of 2.8 thousand meters and horizontal sections extending for around 500 meters. The drilling campaign involves six rigs.

Reservoir engineering techniques have been identified that would allow to choose the most efficient ways for further development and production. Specifically, GPN is planning a serious of additional well tests, including oriented coring and new completion methods.

The results of these two stages will give a better understanding of geological and technical properties of the new oil and gas reservoirs in this field, which have never been developed before. Subsequently a comprehensive program will be laid out to develop the field with challenging geological features.

The information thus obtained will be used to plan reservoir engineering techniques for the basic well stock of 169 and to choose the best setups to maintain reservoir pressure.

REFERENCE:

ABC1 + C2 reserves associated with the eastern part of the Orenburg oil-gas-condensate field total 96 million tons of oil, 2 million tons of condensate, 53 billion m3 of natural gas and 10 billion m3 of dissolved gas.

In October 2011 Gazprom Neft acquired a 61.8% interest in Gazprom Neft Orenburg which holds the license to develop the eastern part of the Orenburg field.

In autumn 2011 Gazprom Neft also became the owner of another two fields in the Orenburg Region where the company plans to create a new strategic production region. The first asset is the Tsarichanskoe field acquired in September 2011 and the other one is Kapitonovskoe field for which the transaction was completed in November 2011. Overall reserves confirmed to the two fields exceed 17 million tons of oil.
