The President, Felipe Calderon, announced a new oil discovery in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, confirmed the presence of light oil in the well Supremus-1, located in the province of Lost, like the well Trion-1, announced on August 27.

In a ceremony held at the official residence of Los Pinos, with the presence of Pemex CEO Juan Jose Suarez Coppel, and Energy Secretary Jordy Herrera, the President announced that the Supremus-1 well, located Matamoros 250 km and 39 km. south territorial limit, was successful in the production of crude oil.

The well was drilled to 2,900 meters, the water depth of the history of PEMEX and the eighth worldwide. The total depth is more than four thousand meters, including seafloor crust.

Piercing Supremus-1, launched in June, was conducted by the West Pegasus platform, sixth generation, built in Korea.

The total thickness of the well impregnated is 30 meters, with a porosity of 33 percent and a permeability of 340 milidarcys, which ensures productivity, with an estimated flow of up to 10,000 barrels a day. The objectives of this deposit geological found in Oligocene and Miocene eras.

Thus, with the information that is available to date, it is estimated by incorporating reserves to 125 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe), with potential resources of up to 447 MMboe.

This finding gives more certainty to prospective resources Perdido Area project, expected to 13 billion barrels of PCE, which could double current proved reserves and allow Mexico to increase oil production in the medium and long term.
