Barents natural gas will supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the new ferries Torghatten North to the Western area in 2012. It provides a good environmental accounting also for the transportation of LNG to be used on ferries.

"Gas Ferry fjord on the west is an important environmental initiative in the north, and we are proud that Torghatten Nord AS so that the offer from us as a local supplier was a proper environmental profile, "said Managing Director Gudrun Rollefsen of Barents Natural Gas. She has worked with the offer to Torghatten North's gas ferries since they were invited to the talks in September, and is happy that long sprint has paid off. The contract will have an annual value of between 40-50 million per year for 10 years.

LNG as a fuel results in a significant savings for the environment compared with the same consumption of diesel. The transition to natural gas means that local emissions such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) is reduced by about 90%, while sulfur, and dust disappears. Meanwhile, emissions of CO2 are reduced by around 25%. "The use of LNG as a fuel in the tank cars are also providing the same environmental effects, and when we come over on tankers . Eventually it will be even better, "says Rollefsen. She expects to spend approximately 2-3 tankbiler til oppdraget. 2-3 tanker trucks to the mission.

Also Torghatten Nord AS is pleased with the result. "Barents Natural Gas has been very professional and solution-oriented in this process, and has met with us on the areas that were important to us. ", says Bjorn Laksforsmo, Managing Director of Torghatten Nord AS, which will operate the four new gas ferries across the Western area in 2012. "Price and Environment has been important. In addition, we think the Barents Natural Gas is a concept that , support local economic development, and tank farms in Lødingen; Moskenes and Bodo will make it possible for municipalities, businesses, fisheries and others to go over to more environmentally friendly energy.

It remains now for the formal contract between the Barents Natural Gas og Torghatten Nord AS and Torghatten Nord AS to be signed in Bodø on January 2011
