Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE:JEC) announced today that it received a contract from North West Redwater Partnership for its Sturgeon Refinery Project in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland area.

Officials did not disclose contract value, but noted that under the terms of the contract, Jacobs is providing engineering and procurement services for the utilities requirements of the refinery, a fundamental component of the first phase of the project.

Located approximately 30 miles northeast of Edmonton in Alberta, Canada; the Sturgeon Refinery is being designed to enhance cost effectiveness and minimize environmental impact. Although only Phase 1 is sanctioned at this time, after three equal phases, the facility is expected to operate at a capacity of 150,000 barrels per day; producing diesel, diluent, and other bitumen products for national and global markets.

In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Greg Rumford stated, “We are delighted to have the opportunity to develop a relationship with North West Redwater Partnership as we leverage our extensive refinery capabilities and expertise to support them in working toward their goals for this significant project.”

North West Redwater Partnership is a joint venture between North West Upgrading Inc. and Canadian Natural Resources Limited, a partnership that aims to build and operate a world class bitumen refinery with the vision of providing quality bitumen products in a responsible and sustainable manner.
