In an effort to ensure the reliable operation of production facilities and increase the volume of production of top quality petroleum products, NIS is going to launch a planned overhaul of all refinery process facilities in Pančevo as of 1 September. The overhaul is going to last until 30 September and in addition to controlling, replacing and inspecting the refinery equipment, the refinery capacities will be additionally modernised at the same time.

The planned technical and technological improvements and reconstructions will enhance the business efficiency of NIS’ refining. These investments will ensure an even higher production of white products: petrol, diesel and jet fuel of Euro 5 quality. The new endeavour to optimise the refining capacities will create an opportunity for increased exports of quality petroleum products to the markets of the countries in the region. As part of the planned suspension, there will be a total of 33 investment maintenance projects, including, among others, continued automation of the production process involving a range of primary and secondary refinery facilities, as well as the installation of state-of-the-art systems for the optimisation of furnace combustion, which will result in energy savings up to 20 per cent. The projects involving the closed drainage system and the closed system of sampling at the furnaces, whose implementation will begin in September and will continue during the commercial operation, will provide both ecological benefits and an increased production of white petroleum products. As part of the capital overhaul, nine investments will be implemented in the area of power supply, involving reconstructions in substations, where old equipment will be replaced by the new one, making the operation of the Refinery safer and more reliable. Furthermore, boilers in the energy plant will be reconstructed and the refinery equipment will undergo a series of interventions, such as controlling the proper functionality of over ten thousand measuring instruments and 600 safety valves, as well as cleaning over 150 heat exchangers for various fluids, being the crucial segment in the refining process. All work activities during the planned overhaul at the Pančevo Oil Refinery are in full compliance with ecological legislationMore than 2,000 workers will be engaged in the planned overhaul, with the employees of Services performing key tasks. Over 300 Refining employees will also take part. It has been estimated that the total value of all overhaul activities will be nearly RSD 490 million.NIS will continue to fulfil all its planned commitments to its clients during the overhaul activities in order to ensure that the market is properly supplied with all types of petroleum products. The Company has already made some stocks of finished products, for which purpose sufficient quantities of petroleum products have been provided during the monthly overhaul.“All work activities during the planned overhaul at the Pančevo Oil Refinery are in full compliance with ecological legislation. In addition, all refinery operations are carried out in accordance with the adopted corporate policy on the protection of the environment, industrial safety and occupational health and safety, as well as the principles of sustainable development, by reducing adverse effects of the Company’s operations on the environment. We place particular emphasis on the improvement of the environmental protection system and its more efficient management,” said Aurel Bogdan, Director of the Production Department of Refining.
