The first gasoline at the refinery was received in early 1985 as a result of 13 years of construction, transport and technological linking of oil production facilities in Western Siberia with production capacity in southern Kazakhstan.

Today, the main raw material for the plant is the oil from the Kumkol field in the Kyzylorda region and product line LLP "Petro Kazakhstan Oil Products" or PKOP, officially called the SOP includes all grades of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel.

The basis of the success of the company is an international partnership of two strong shareholders: JSC "NC" KazMunayGas "in the face of a subsidiary of JSC" KMG-processing and marketing "and the corporation« CNPC »(PRC).

Although the maximum capacity utilization in 2010, demand for its products started to exceed supply as a result it had been planned gradual modernization of the plant, including in the framework of SPAIID.
The modernization project PKOP implemented in 2 phases. The first planned to master production of motor fuels environmental class K4 and K5 (similar to Euro-4 and Euro-5), according to the requirements of technical regulations of the Customs Union. For this purpose, the company reconstructed the existing and construction of new technological installations: the installation of isomerization plant for the production of sulfur capacity of 4,000 tons per year, reconstruction of the diesel hydrotreater. After their commissioning the plant, all products get marked for compliance with Euro 4 and Euro 5.

The second stage of modernization set aside to bring the production volumes of the plant to 6 million tonnes per year and increase the depth of oil refining up to 80%. At this stage, the company will replenish the arsenal of the catalytic cracking unit «RFCC», gasoline hydrotreater «Prime G +», production of sulfur, hydrogen purification, and others. Upon completion of the second stage of the production of high-octane gasoline at the plant will increase from 735 to 2186 tons per year, diesel fuel - from 1346 until 1946 th. Tons, aviation fuel - from 280 to 425 thous. Tons per year. The share of high-octane gasoline will be 100% of pool products.

Completion of the project is scheduled for the 4th quarter of 2017.
