Recently, with on-spec products coming out from the No1. atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit, this old unit in Sinopec Tianjin Petrochemical, built in 1976, was upgraded after maintenance and became the first dedicated condensate processing unit in China. From then on, feedstock for ethylene cracker in Sinopec Tianjin Petrochemical is basically self-supplied, and SINOPEC Tianjin has also become the first condensate refiner in China.

Condensate is a kind of extra-light crude oil mainly composed of naphtha. It is also called natural gasoline, which is a preferred feedstock for ethylene production. Compared with naphtha, condensate features low cost and high yield in ethylene cracking.

China has no dedicated condensate processing unit before. Sinopec Tianjin Petrochemical has made a breakthrough in ethylene cracking feedstock. It is said that the common crude oil can produce about 16% of light and heavy naphtha, while condensate processing can produce about 55% of the light and heavy naphtha—a great improvement in output. It effectively reduces the production cost of ethylene, serving as a strong force to improve profitability.
