Repsol has certified the Energy Management System in place at its A Coruña refinery under the UNE–EN16001 standard. This certification successfully rounds off the pilot project to implement an Energy Management System at the refinery, making it one of the first in Europe and Repsol’s first to receive this acknowledgement.

Thanks to the certification, Repsol places itself at the forefront of the sector and improves its competitiveness and energy efficiency, whilst reducing its impact on the environment.

The Energy Management System helps to reduce energy consumption thanks to the inclusion of all activities related to energy management within a cycle of continuous improvement. To do this, it is essential to have tools to identify, analyse and implement energy saving methods and to efficiently monitor both energy consumption and related processes or activities.

The operating of the system down to the very last detail is possible thanks to the commitment and responsibility of all people taking part in the refinery’s activities.
The UNE-EN16001 certification awarded to the Energy Management System is approved by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) and is the standard energy management regulation accepted at European level. Its objective is to support the setting up of systems and processes to improve energy efficiency, reducing costs and greenhouse gas emissions through a systemised process.
