BOEM Approves First BP Exploration Plan to Meet New Standards
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) today approved a supplemental Exploration Plan (EP) submitted by BP for deepwater oil and gas activities. BOEM conducted a site-specific Environmental Assessment (EA) of the activities described in the plan. This is the 44th plan that has been approved following the completion of a site-specific EA since stronger regulations were implemented in June 2010. Prior to any drilling under the plan, BP must obtain drilling permits from the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), which will continue to assess the information that is necessary to allow specific activities.

Atwood Oceanics Announces Contract for the Atwood Condor
ATWOOD OCEANICS, INC., announced today that one of its subsidiaries has been awarded a drilling services contract by Hess Corporation for work in the Gulf of Mexico for the Atwood Condor, Atwood's ultra-deepwater, dynamically positioned Friede & Goldman ExD Millennium semisubmersible drilling unit currently under construction at Jurong Shipyard Pte. Ltd. in Singapore.The contract has a firm duration of 21 months, exclusive of the mobilization period from Singapore to the Gulf of Mexico, and includes two one-year options with pricing subject to mutual agreement.

BP Announces Settlement with Anadarko Petroleum Company of Claims Related to Deepwater Horizon Accident
BP today announced that it has reached agreement with Anadarko Petroleum Company (“Anadarko”) to settle all claims between the companies related to the Deepwater Horizon accident. Anadarko – which had a 25 per cent interest in the MC252 (Macondo) prospect – and BP have concluded that entering into a settlement is in the best interest of the parties to resolve pending disputes. The agreement is not an admission of liability by any party regarding the accident.

No Oil Leaking From Sunken Transocean Rig or Riser, Investigation Confirms
Transocean Ltd. (NYSE: RIG) (SIX: RIGN) — A comprehensive two-day underwater examination conducted by Transocean and the US Coast Guard (USCG) on October 4th and 5th confirmed that there are no hydrocarbons leaking from of the sunken Deepwater Horizon or the riser, the pipe that linked the rig to the well head before the Macondo accident last year. The inspection, conducted with the use of a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV), also failed to find any "sheen" or oil in the area.

BOEMRE Tropical Storm Lee Activity Statistics Update: September 4, 2011
Offshore oil and gas operators in the Gulf of Mexico are evacuating platforms and rigs in the path of Tropical Storm Lee. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation, and Enforcement (BOEMRE) Hurricane Response Team is monitoring the operators’ activities. The team will continue to work with offshore operators and other state and federal agencies until operations return to normal and the storm is no longer a threat to Gulf of Mexico oil and gas activities.

Salazar, Bromwich Announce Proposed Gulf of Mexico Oil and Gas Lease Sale
Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) Director Michael R. Bromwich today announced that BOEMRE will hold the first oil and natural gas lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico since the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill. Consistent with steps President Obama announced in May 2011 to expand domestic oil and gas production safely and responsibly, the proposed Western Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 218 is scheduled to be held in New Orleans on December 14, 2011. The sale will include all available unleased areas in the Western Gulf Planning Area offshore Texas.
