Shell takes final investment decision to build Solvent Deasphalter unit at Pernis refinery in the Netherlands
Shell today announces it has taken the final investment decision to build a major new unit at the Pernis refinery in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The Solvent Deasphalter (SDA) unit will remove heavier fractions from crude oil, allowing the refinery to upgrade a larger proportion of its oil intake into lighter, high-grade products.

Shell Midstream Partners, L.P. Technip awarded additional subsea contract for the Stones project development in the Gulf of Mexico
Technip was awarded by Shell Offshore Inc. (“Shell”) a contract for the development of subsea infrastructure for the Stones project. Included in the service are two subsea production tie-backs to the Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel. The Stones field is located in the Walker Ridge area in the US Gulf of Mexico, at a water depth of 2,930 meters along the pipelay route.

Shell updates on Alaska exploration
Shell today provides an update on the Burger J exploration well, located in Alaska’s Chukchi Sea. The Burger J well is approximately 150 miles from Barrow, Alaska, in about 150 feet of water. Shell safely drilled the well to a total depth of 6800 feet this summer in a basin that demonstrates many of the key attributes of a major petroleum basin. For an area equivalent to half the size of the Gulf of Mexico, this basin remains substantially under-explored.
