Saipem, a company of Eni Group, announces that Carigali-Triton Operating Company Sdn. Bhd., an international oil operator based in Malaysia, issued a letter of award worth in excess of US$ 500 million for the engineering, procurement, construction, load-out, hook-up and pre-commissioning of the Cakerawala offshore gas field development in the Malaysia – Thailand Joint Development Area to the Consortium formed by Technip, Samsung and Saipem.

Negotiations are in progress to finalise the contract within the end of February 2000.

The turnkey contract covers the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) of three wellhead platforms, a compression platform, a centralprocessing production platform, a subsea pipeline, two intrafield lines and a Floating Storage and Offloading unit (FSO).

Saipem’s share of the work, estimated at approximately US$ 65 million, will cover the project management of the FSO and the engineering and procurement of the mooring system, the FSO installation, the laying of the subsea pipeline and intrafield lines, the installation of the offshore platforms and the carrying out of the commissioning works.

Saipem considers this acquisition as a positive signal of recovery of the offshore construction market in South East Asia.
